【问】在最新版本的普通高中英语教科书第一册92页有这样一句话：

Wednesday night saw the destruction of the very heart of the city. 星期三晚上，这座城市的中心地带遭到了破坏。

丁丁老师：星期三晚上能看见吗？

【答】我们汉语的中的每一个句子，差不多都是用人作主语，很少用无生物的。英文本也可以用人作主语，但用无生物的名词作主语，却使得英文的味儿更加浓厚。比如“我因事进城了”，本来是可以这样说：I went to the town on business，不过不及用无生物名词作主语来得漂亮：Business took me to the town. 又比如说We suggested that we hold a meeting to talk over the matter，不如It was suggested that we hold a meeting to talk over the matter含蓄。我们再来看看几个例句：

[1] Somehow this worst of disasters brought out the best in the survivors.（2019年版普通高中英语教科书第一册92页）不知怎的，这场最严重的灾难使幸存者们表现出了最好的一面。

[2] The last thirty years have seen the greatest number of laws stopping our rights and progress, until today we have reached a stage where we have almost no rights at all. (04人教新课标必修一34页) 过去30年来所出现的大量法律剥夺我们的权利，阻挡我们的进步，一直到今天，我们还处在几乎什么权利都没有的阶段。

[3] Dusk found him crying in the street. (81年人教版高二56页)到了黄昏的时候，他在街上哭。

[4] My only worry was that January would find me hunting for a job again. (86年人教版高三222页) 我唯一担心的是，到了一月份，我又得去找工作。

[5] October 1st, 1949 saw the raising of our five-star red flag for the first time on Tiananmen Square. (86人教版高三232页) 1949年10月1日，我们的五星红旗第一次在北京广场升起。

[6]However, the evening makes it all worthwhile. (04人教新课标必修四2页) 但是到傍晚时分我们就觉得这一切都是值得的。
